What happens in a match
Most players begin as Runners, and one player becomes the Chaser. Runners work toward three successful crossings while staying out of reach. The Chaser reads their routes, catches them and reduces the Runner side by converting players.
That simple objective hides a movement game built around momentum. A Runner who holds forward in a straight line becomes predictable; a Chaser who follows the exact trail instead of cutting ahead gives up distance.
Controls and movement
On PC, use W/A/S/D to move, hold A or D and press Space for a side dash, press Alt for an instant stop, and use E for nearby interactions such as a rescue prompt. Community guides report Q as the equipped ability key. Mobile uses on-screen controls.
Acceleration and deceleration matter. Build speed before committing to open ground, then break the Chaser’s prediction with a lateral dash or sudden stop. The dash is not a forward sprint.
Runner basics
- Change direction before the Chaser reaches striking distance.
- Cross with other players so the Chaser must choose a target.
- Watch caught teammates and rescue only when the route is safe.
- Use the free One Hit Shield to learn timing before spending Gems.
- Choose Chicken while learning; take Hero only when you understand the solo-crossing risk and reward.
For a deeper route and rescue plan, read the Runner strategy guide.
Chaser basics
- Aim where a fast Runner will be, not where they are now.
- Pressure groups near a crossing instead of chasing one evasive player forever.
- Use the free Bear Trap to learn area denial.
- Save your ability for a route commitment rather than firing it at maximum range.
The Chaser strategy guide covers target selection and ability timing.
Currencies and loadouts
Performance and pickups can award Gems, which are used for permanent abilities. Match rewards provide Coins, commonly used for consumable item packs. You can equip one ability and one consumable through the menu/shop loadout flow described by current guides.
Prices have changed between October guide snapshots, so always trust the live shop over an old screenshot. Start with the Gems and Coins guide, compare all abilities, and check consumables and knives before spending.
A simple first-session plan
Play several rounds with the free loadouts. Practice accelerating, side dashing and stopping before trying to win every crossing. Redeem the latest reported codes only when you are ready to use timed boosts. After you can survive one chase consistently, buy for your preferred role—not for a tier label alone.
